1. Did you know that dogs have more than 220 million scent receptors in their nose,

where humans have a mere 5 million?


2. Dogs have their own ‘fingerprint’ just like us! A dog’s paw print may look pretty

generic but their nose print is actually as unique as a human fingerprint. Their

combination of ridges and creases is so distinct it can actually be used to identify


3. The Basenji is the only dog breed that cannot bark-they do however do a great yodel!


4. Some breeds of dogs, such as Newfoundlands have webbed feet making naturally making them perfect for swimming.


5. A dog’s ear contains 18 muscles. That is 18 muscles in each ear!


6. The Beatles included a whistle in their song ‘A Day in the Life’ that is only audible to dogs.


7. Whiskers are used as sensing devices; they can be used to see if a dog will fit into a small space.


8. Puppies have 28 needles - I mean teeth in their mouth. Whereas a normal adult dog has 48


9. Dogs are not colour blind. They can actually see some colours, just not as vividly

as a human. However, they cannot see red or purple. Toys are often coloured in

these to attract... us, the owners to buy them!


10.Ancient Egyptians revered their dogs. When a pet dog would die, the owners shaved

off their eyebrows, smeared mud in their hair, and mourned aloud for days.
